USS Comstock a destroyer frigate of the US Navy arrived in Subic Bay for a routine port call. SFL provided husbanding services to USS Comstock during its stay as part of the contract of SFL with the US Navy and assisted with its community relation efforts in Zambales.
After a competitive bidding process, SFL emerged as one of the qualified contractors for Husbanding Services to the US Navy vessels. SFL will be providing husbanding services such as but not limited to obtaining port clearances, coordination for the vessels’ supplies and required services, transportation of crew, and providing the necessary equipment for the port visit. In lieu of this, SFL has expanded its inventory of assets to include materials to be used in delivery of the services by manufacturing its own picket boat, Seaway 1, manufacturing its own gangway, purchase of 6 large fenders, generator sets, barricades, etc.
Once again, SFL successfully bagged the brokerage and ship agency contract for Therma South, Inc.’s 2×150 Mega Watt coal-fired power plant in Davao. SFL will continue to deliver its services in the processing of TSI’s coal shipments as well as cater to the requirements of the port visits.

SFL has expanded its operational services and has been granted by SBMA the permit to partake in cargo handling activities. In line with this, SFL has purchased six buckets for loading/unloading of dry break bulk cargo. Each steel bucket has a capacity of 5 Tons and is also available for rent.
In addition to SFL’s growing fleet of assets, 2 new forklifts (JCB Telescopic Forklift and TCM Standard Forklift) were acquired in 2014 to aid in cargo handling operations. SFL’s telescopic forklift is the first of its kind in Subic Bay, ideal for cargo handling, loading and stripping of containers with its ability to extend its boom and its interchangeable loader (fork/bucket). The JCB Telescopic Forklift’s bucket has a capacity 3 Tons and has a lifting capacity is 3.5 Tons while the TCM Forklift has a lifting capacity of 3 Tons. Both units are also available for rent.
In collaboration with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and the Rotary Club of West Triangle, SFL managed to organize the first ever SBMA Chairman’s Cup. The tournament was held at Subic Bay Golf Course on May 24, 2014 with over 70 participants and over 25 sponsors from organizations within the Freeport Zone and Olongapo City. The proceeds from the tournament were used to purchase 2 new jeeps for the Subic Forest Rangers who look after forest preservation and roam Forest areas for protection of locals.
SFL has signed on to be the vessel agent for the chartered vessels of TSI. These chartered vessels will be delivering the coal supply of the power plant and will be docking in TSI’s private jetty within the plant facility.
As the construction of Therma South Inc’s 2×150 Mega Watt power plant nears completion, SFL has bagged another contract for services to TSI for plant operations. SFL is now the official broker of TSI for incoming coal shipments.
Pagbilao Energy Corporation has contracted the brokerage services of SFL for the expansion of a third power-generating unit with a capacity of 420 Mega Watts. Construction for the third unit has begun in late 2014 and is expected to finish in 2017. Once operational, the third unit will become a much-needed additional source of power for the grid of Luzon.
